This exquisite handmade doll, "Bukovynka," represents the traditional attire of Bukovyna, a historical region in southwestern Ukraine. Many Ukrainians from this region immigrated to Canada and the United States in the early 20th century, bringing their rich cultural heritage with them.

The doll's costume is a beautiful reflection of Bukovynian wedding outfit. The costume features hand-embroidered red and green beadwork, while the skirt is machine-embroidered, showcasing intricate patterns. 

A standout feature of this doll is its headpiece, a unique and historically significant decoration called "karabulia" or "koda." This elaborate adornment is crafted from satin flowers and an imitation of "kovyla," a local grass. Historically, such headpieces were exclusively worn in Bukovyna, making them an essential element of the wedding traditional outfit.
